Non Food Friday – Exploding Scrapbook Box

For the one year anniversary of the day I met my boyfriend I gave him a little book with the reasons why I love him so much on every page. This year for our second anniversary, I made him an Exploding Scrapbook Box, full of photos of us over the last two years. It was a great idea I found on Pinterest, with a tutorial on how to make it, check it out…  http://glitteradventure.blogspot.co.uk/2006/11/exploding-box-class.html

I bought the embossed blue card from Hobbycraft  and was delighted to find a pack of ‘Gorjuss’ scrapbooking craft papers by Suzanne Woolcott  and a date stamper by K&Company SMASH… amazing.  I loved how it turned out, who knows why handmade idea I’ll come up with next year!

Non Food Friday – Birmingham

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I decided to visit Birmingham, we’d never been there before and thought it would make a nice change to our usual weekend hangouts. We enjoyed the underground market The Oasis, full of vinyl, heavy metal t-shirts and alternative jewellery where I purchase a cute pair of knee high socks with swallows and hearts on. We also ventured into the vintage and retro area called The Custard Factory, where I fell in love with all the old crates, suitcases and random goodies and enjoyed the street art along the way. We also popped into the museum and art gallery for a little culture, where I found the cutest little lunchbox in the gift shop, by Happy Jackson… really lovely range of stuff, their website is super cute too, check it out www.happyjackson.co.uk. So for this weeks ‘Non Food Friday’ I wanted to share my new lunchbox and the street art of Birmingham.

Taylor Wessing

It’s ‘Non Food Friday’ and it’s also that time of year again… The Taylor Wessing National Portrait Competition 2013.  After last years success with my portrait of a burlesque dancer making it into the top 200, I couldn’t wait to enter again this year. This year my entry is of Chef… results come out on Tuesday… fingers crossed.

Kirsty Mitchell

For this weeks Non Food Friday, I’m going to introduce you to a wonderful British photographer called Kirsty Mitchell. Her gallery of  work is split into three  categories; Wonderland, My Angel and Nocturnal… all are equally beautiful.

I’m a huge fan of fairy tales, I love how dark and disturbing they really are when you read the original stories. Kirsty shares in her bio how her work is heavily inspired by the stories she was read as a child and I think her photos are wonderful interpretations, very whimsical and truly stunning. I highly recommend checking out her website.

Non Food Friday No.1

Most of the time this blog is all food food food, so I thought I might be nice to introduce a little fun on Fridays and share something that’s not all about food photography. So today we begin with the first of a new little feature called ‘Non Food Friday’ and I thought I’d start by sharing a couple of my purchases this week. The first is something that I’ve seen popping up in shops recently and I have totally fallen in love with. As a person who loves to write lists the idea of a week planner/mouse pad/note pad with tear off weekly pages PLUS cute design…was pure genius and of course I had to have one!

This really cute design is by Knock Knock  (www.KnockKnockStuff.com) which I found in John Lewis, Paperchase also have some great designs too.

I’ve also treated myself to a couple of very cute necklaces that I found in Accesorize, which is currently having a 50% sale, the camera necklace was reduced to £3 and the specs were £2.50, love them both equally.
